The Teams of Chi Town Are Back in Full Bloom

As the MLB regular season comes to a close, football season commences, and Bears football returns to Soldier Field. And this year, sports matter a bit more for Chicagoans.

The reason? For the first time in what seems like years, all Chicago teams have something big to play for, and the vibes are better than ever.

Chicago baseball is in the best spot that it’s been in almost six years, which was the last time that both the White Sox and the Cubs made the postseason.

A big reason for the Cubs’ success this season can ultimately be traced to one very substantial player, Pete Crow-Armstrong. Crow-Armstrong is having the best season for a Chicago Cub since Kris Bryant’s MVP season in 2016, when the Cubs won the World Series.

And it seems like Crow-Armstrong is trying to follow in Bryant’s footsteps, as he’s the favorite to win the 2026 National League MVP, along with chasing the first 40/40 season in Cubs history.

If you go to a Cubs game, there’s even a chance you’ll see other Chicago stars there together, like Caleb Williams and Matas Buzelis.

Now let’s talk about the hitmen on the other side of town. In 2024, the White Sox lost an infamously historic 121 games, setting the modern-day record for losses. Last season they went 60-102, an improvement that gave fans hope for the future.

Now, in 2026, the Sox have seemingly completely turned their team around. They sit at 80-76 and are competing to try and win the American League Central for the first time since 2021. Their success this season can be credited to their young core of players, particularly three in sluggers Munetaka Murakami, Miguel Vargas, and Colson Montgomery.

This is the first season that the Sox have had three 30 home run players since 2008, when they won their division and lost in the first round to the Tampa Bay Rays.

While baseball has given Chicago fans plenty to be excited about, football is where the city’s attention really starts to shift as the fall begins. The Bears are coming off a season that brought a lot of optimism to the organization, and now they have the opportunity to prove that last year was not just a fluke.

With Williams entering another season as the face of the franchise, there is a different feeling surrounding the Bears than there has been in recent years.

For Bears fans, the biggest question is simple: Can this team finally put everything together? Chicago has had plenty of talented players over the years, but finding consistency has been the biggest challenge. Now, with a young quarterback and a team that is looking to compete, every game at Soldier Field feels like it could mean something. That alone is a major change for a fanbase that has dealt with plenty of disappointing seasons.

And it’s not just the Bears bringing excitement to Chicago sports.

The Bulls and Blackhawks are also looking to build around young talent and create something that fans can look forward to in the future. Buzelis has given Bulls fans another young player to watch, while the Blackhawks continue to develop their young core. Even if those teams are not competing for championships right now, having young stars gives Chicago fans a reason to watch and believe in what could come next.
