Donald Trump Elected 47th President of the United States
After a night of bomb threats in five key battleground states, lengthy lines at the ballot box, and a tallying of the electoral college votes that was almost too close to call—the dawn of Nov. 6 marked a victory for Former President and convicted felon Donald Trump.
While the official vote count continues in several states—including key battleground states Arizona and Michigan—and likely will for days to come, Vice President Kamala Harris’ path to the 270 electoral votes she needed to win has all but vanished.
American voters did not meet expected turnout, trailing behind the numbers seen in the previous 2020 election.
As it stands, Trump emerges victorious in this year’s popular vote, with a 51% majority, and 277 electoral votes to Harris’ 224. This marks the best performance for a Republican candidate since the 2004 election.
Speaking to supporters on the morning of Nov. 6, Trump spoke of a new era in America while encouraging the divided country to ‘unite.’
“America has given us an unprecedented and powerful mandate,” declared Trump, talking of the Republican party’s new control of the Senate—and likely the House of Representatives.
While it remains to be seen what President-elect Donald Trump will do with his second presidency, he and those around him have made it clear that it will be nothing like his first.
“I will govern by a simple motto,” stated Trump, “Promises made, promises kept.”
Among those promises made, Trump has appeared keen to reward those supporters closest to him.
Failed presidential candidate Robert F. Kennedy Jr. spoke recently about a conversation he had with Trump, in which the Former President promised he would ‘fight like hell’ for him to run the Department of Health and Human Services.
There have also been talks of Elon Musk, the businessman at the helm of several successful companies, and the richest man in the world, joining Trump’s administration. The president-elect said he would invite Musk to ‘eliminate government waste.’
The potential implementation of Project 2025 is another suspected ‘promise,’ as although Trump throughout his campaign made many efforts to distance himself from the 900-page document, many former members of his administration contributed to its creation.
After refusing to accept defeat only four short years ago, President-elect Donald Trump has undoubtedly secured his victory this time around, and only time will tell what this means for a country divided in the coming years.
