After 70 years, Queen Elizabeth II leaves her legacy to her son, King Charles
The former queen reigned over 32 sovereign states when she was first crowned, and 15 at the time of her death. Charles III, her oldest son, has succeeded her and is now King of England.
After marrying Prince Philip in Nov. 1947, the Queen took the throne at the young age of 25 years old. She became the longest serving monarch in British history and many looked up to her throughout her reign as queen.
The former queen was known for her calm demeanor and dignity and was able to bring the royal family into the public eye more.
When the royal family announced her passing, the people of England were shocked and devastated that their queen had died. Her death not only affected those in England, but people in the United States as well.
Queen Elizabeth’s funeral took place on Sept. 19 and was buried in King George VI Memorial Chapel next to her late husband. Over 2,000 people attended her funeral and it was the first state funeral to be held in Britain since Winston Churchill’s death.
While being interviewed by BBC, the grandson of the queen, Prince William, said that it’s been difficult but felt better knowing that people were there for support.
“If you flip it on its head, it is always very comforting that so many people care. It makes it a lot better,” stated Prince William in the interview.
The former queen is survived by her sons King Charles, Prince Andrew, Prince Edward, and her daughter Princess Anne, as well as her grandchildren and great grandchildren.
