Breaking News: Racist graffiti reported in library

Published by Jared Boekenhauer on March 16, 2022

Racist graffiti was reported to Elmhurst University, according to an email from the V.P. of Diversity and Inclusion, Bruce King on March 16.

The racist graffiti was located in the A.C. Buehler Library and was reported by an unidentified member of the campus community.

In his email, King said the message is “offensive and violates the foundational values of this university.”

“As we continue to celebrate our sesquicentennial, we must never allow the actions of a few to deter us from our aspirations of preparing our students for meaningful and ethical contributions to a diverse, global society,” said King’s email.

Specifics about what was found in the A.C. Buehler library have not been released. This is not the first incident of racist graffiti being identified on campus, with similar incidents occurring in 2019 in various campus buildings.

Anyone who has information about this incident is encouraged to reach out to the department of public safety or King.
