SGA denies proposed Alpha Omega Chapter at EU
SGA voted against a proposal to have an Alpha Omega Chapter at Elmhurst University during the SGA meeting on Thursday, Nov. 11, due to the proposal being too “vague.”
Alpha Omega is a Christian ministry organization with chapters at universities across the country. Two EU students — sophomores Jenna Melville and Leah Haft — were attempting to start a chapter at EU.
“It [voting against the proposal] was pretty unanimous,” said Daizja Hollman, senator of student affairs. “We didn’t disapprove the club, we think it’s gonna be very beneficial. We just think there’s a lot of specifics that they need to bring to us.”
“We were really confused about their outreach because they specifically talked about inviting women, and we wanted to make sure it was like, everyone was welcome,” said Hollman.
Despite the rejected proposal, SGA invited Melville and Haft back on Dec. 2, to provide another proposal.
“We’re going to continue working on developing our club’s ideas and activities to have more detailed answers for the next meeting,” said Melville in an email to The Leader. “We’re also going to work on promoting our club to hopefully expand our roster.”
“We are hoping just to spread the gospel, and teach about the Bible and God’s word,” Melville told The Leader. “We’re hoping to help students grow their personal faith and personal connection to God through a biblical lens, just keeping that as our foundation.
