A letter from the editor

Published by Marisa Karpes on August 30, 2020

Dear Readers,

First of all, I would like to welcome you to the 2020-2021 school year — even though it may look a bit different than usual.

Like classes and other extracurriculars occurring this semester, The Leader will also be taking on a different form. We at The Leader decided to keep our content for the O-Issue, and the issues that follow it, strictly digital until further notice.

This means that, as usual, our content will be accessible on our website elmhurstleader.com. In addition to that, we will be putting out digitized versions of the newspaper, which will be available on Issuu (which is also available on our website under “Archives”).

The digitized issues are meant to give you, as our readers, something as close to the experience of reading our usual physical newspaper as we possibly can — without being in-print. So while we may seem missing from our newsstands, hopefully our presence can still be known in this new way.

At The Leader we are dedicated to keep you informed on what is going on around campus as per usual. However, it is important to note that we, ourselves, are living through these times as well.

We are students learning to navigate online and hybrid classes. We are or have at-risk people living in our households. We have been relocated or unemployed. We have had to drastically change the way we thought our college experience was going to go.

While we may try to provide our own guidance (especially in the O-issue) as a response to what is happening not only on-campus but around the world, we unfortunately are not experts. We too are learning things on the fly and sharing as we go.

This does not mean you should not trust our content or us as a source. Rather, we ask you to be patient with us while also still holding us accountable to provide you with the insight you need.

As tired as you may be of hearing it, we are truly together in getting through these hard times. We need each other to navigate this new normal.

We encourage you to spread the word about The Leader and its new form to whoever you can. We also would love to keep you engaged with us. Follow us on social media, write us letters, and even join our staff.

We hope you enjoy and take something away from this O-Issue.

Sincerely,

Marisa Karpes
