The Leader unveils new website

Published by Bailey Hoenig on March 3, 2020

The Leader newspaper has taken initiative in moving to a new digital platform with a newly improved website on Feb. 18.

Separate from the old website, this new site is designed to ease the route for the audience and promote a broader range of academic tools for all Elmhurst students.

“It was incredibly rewarding to work on a real project that went live and will be used for years to come,” said Sarah Dickey, a senior computer science and math major who worked to create the website.

Inspired by a need for a more diverse platform, The Leader staff and other members around campus began building this new forum during Syeda Sameeha’s time as editor in chief at the beginning of the 2019 fall semester.

The website staff, Dickey and other students, used a platform known as WordPress to lay out the foundations. Students were the main contributor to the success of the website.

The new website will continue posting articles from the print editions of the paper as well as online breaking news stories.

“We have a lot more breaking news on the website that isn’t seen in the print edition,” said Josie Zabran, current editor in chief.

Discussion for podcasts and videos are in the works to be exclusive digital content for The Leader. The website wants to attract more digital media major students in addition to writers to help grow the website.

“One of our priorities is to bring more students into the fold, both for the print and for our multimedia components,” said Eric Lutz, The Leader’s digital advisor.

The new website can be found at elmhurstleader.com.
