In their season opener against St. Norbert College on Saturday, November 16, Elmhurst College topped the Knights 75-50.

Jake Rhode hit his 1,000 point mark after leading the Bluejays in scoring with 17 points.

To start the game, both teams struggled to get the ball into the basket but eventually got things moving with a few runs. Derek Dotlich added a couple of three pointers followed by two big baskets by Jay Militello.

Close to the end of the half, the Bluejays got their groove with a 14-2 run heading into the locker room 24-37.

The Bluejays started the second half off hot. Ebhrahim Jobe slammed in two crowd-roaring dunks followed by another five points from Rhode.

St. Norbert tried to gain back the lead, lowering the lead by 16 points, but a 10-0 run from the Bluejays and the rest of the bench put the game to bed.

From the three point line, the Bluejays went 28% and 45.9% altogether from the floor. Rhode led all scorers and became the 26th player in EC history to hit the 1,000 mark. Rhode was followed by Dotlich with 15 points and five rebounds, and Militello added ten points, six assists, and four steals. Lavon Thomas and Jobe both totaled nine points while Thomas grabbed nine rebounds as well.

In EC’s next game, they will face Illinois Institute of Technology on Tuesday, November 19 at 7 p.m.
