A New Club Hits the Runway

A new club is unraveling – Elmhurst University Fashion Club (EUFC). EUFC’s vision is to cover all aspects of fashion, giving students a place for projects and help for developing their own personal style.
The next meeting is on Feb. 27 in the North Alexander Room inside of the Frick Center and will be held every other Thursday from 5-6 p.m.
Created by Emony Hall, EUFC is for people who are into or want to get into fashion.
“We want our club to serve as inspiration and allow everyone to express themselves creatively and authentically,” said Hall.
Their first upcoming event is going to be tote bag patchwork and key chain decorating, on March 10. Some future events include a jewelry workshop, crochet workshop, thrifting event, photography event, and more.
“We have many plans in the works and can’t wait to share them with you all,” said Hall.
Their executive board is made of five additional members: Naomi Jones, Jazlyn Cruz, Devin Thomas, Baysia Young and Eric Castillejo.
Jones, vice president of the club, explained how she’s always been an expressive person – particularly when it comes to her clothing choices.
“I love how there is no limit to creativity when it comes to fashion,” Jones said. “I wanted to create a space for people to share that side of them.”
Cruz, secretary, heard EUFC was in the works and got excited knowing there would be “a place where like-minded, yet unique, individuals could socialize and get involved.”
Thomas, public relations coordinator, explained his desire to be a part of the fashion collective due to wanting to create a safe space for people to express themselves through fashion.
“I’m a big advocate for inclusivity and want to ensure these spaces are available for people of all backgrounds at Elmhurst University,” said Thomas.
Young, social chairwoman, told The Leader she was excited when Hall approached her about being a member of the executive board.
“I love the fact that EUFC is creating an inclusive environment for students at Elmhurst to express their style and creativity,” said Young.
Castillejo, treasurer, expressed how having the opportunity to spread what he’s learned to other unique students at EU is a privilege he’s grateful for.
“For me personally, fashion has been an avenue of self-expression and discovery,” Castillejo said. “That’s changed my life, so when I heard about EUFC I knew I had to be a part of it.”
