Amid heightened security, Elmhurst College will reopen Wednesday, October 30, according to President Troy VanAken’s campus wide email sent on October 29.

“We need to get back to doing what we’re all here to do,” wrote VanAken, on his reason for reopening campus.

VanAken also added the investigation into the multiple incidents of vandalism is ongoing, and the Elmhurst Police are looking into additional vandalism discovered as well.

Last night, October 28, The Leader received several tips of additional vandalism incidents in residence halls and possibly a lockdown.

In an emailed statement sent to The Leader today at 11:07 a.m., the Office of Campus Security said, “No lockdown occurred. After the incident was reported, Campus Security held off on allowing people in and out of the building until they could determine who was present at the time of the discovery. This took roughly 45 minutes. As soon as this was done, access to the building opened back up. Students who attempted to enter during that time were asked to stand by in West Hall lobby, and then allowed into the hall.”

In preparation for students return to campus, EC is taking several precautions including additional campus security officers as well as patrols by the Elmhurst Police Department.
