Democracy: Visions, Strengths, and Challenges – Partners in Peace Events

Published by leaderadmin on April 21, 2026

Thursday, April 23 will be host to numerous special events on campus as part of the Elmhurst University Honor’s Program’s “Partners in Peace” program. These events include three special lecture/panel-style events:

Protected Hour (11:45am to 12:45am) – Buik Recitial Hall (Irion hall) – A teach-in panel led by The Leader’s Assistant News Editor, Ashley Vanderhoff, discussing Democracy in the U.S. This panel will feature the following individuals: Connie Mixon (Urban Studies/Political Science), Emily Navarro (Sociology), Eric Lutz (English and Advisor to The Leader), Patrick Nebl (Psychology), Tim Hazen (Political Science).

5:00pm – Founder’s Lounge (Frick Center) – A keynote speaker event with WTTW Senior Political Reporter Heather Cherone.

7:00pm – Hammerschmidt Memorial Chapel – The Roland Quest lecture featuring Science Friday host Ira Flatow.

The Leader would like to note that due to an internal miscommunication, we incorrectly advertised Ira Flatow as a participant in the Teach-In panel during protected hour. He will not be present during that event. The Leader deeply regrets this error.
