Kevin’s Journal: Letting our Ethics Slide in the Age of Trump

On Friday, Feb. 13 President Trump’s administration rescinded a major finding in green-house gasses, essentially saying climate change is not real, or a priority for this administration. This is just the latest sign from his administration that they truly do not care about our health and wellness or creating a healthier society for the future generations.
This is a normal occurrence during the Trump administration. Trump knows he will not be alive to see these repercussions. These problems are ours to fix and it is time that we stand up and fight back against all of his attacks against our prosperity.
The majority of congress is also at the age that these actions will not affect them or their livelihoods. Look at the representatives and senators who voted for ICE funding and then went out in the media and opposed ICE.
Are these really the people we want in charge of funding our government and telling us how to live our lives? I know I’m getting tired of listening to a politician speak out on an issue that is important to me and come to find out they don’t truly believe in that idea. Old guard politicians have no idea what the generations want and will do anything to get our votes… even lie to us.
We need to stand up to these partisan hacks. We need to make sure they know we will not be lied to or deceived into voting for another “fighter” that is just going to increase the defense budget and send aid to countries that are attacking their citizens and the world.
But hey, who cares as long as they attack President Trump when it comes time for the cameras to come out.
Should we be attacking Trump? Of course we should, but it should be a full on attack and not just a sword and dagger for the cameras that you put down to “work” with the administration when it comes time for policy because we need “bipartisanship”.
We need people that are going to stand up and fight against this harmful agenda, not just in the media but also behind closed doors. I realize that when you get to D.C. you need to sell a little bit of your soul and bend your ethics a bit, but deceiving your constituents is not just unethical, it is just wrong.
We have a lot of problems in our society today, I will not deny that. We just can not allow ourselves to accept these mediocre politicians in exchange for grandstanding in the media. We deserve better from our leaders and should expect them to fight Trump not just in the media, but in the back rooms of D.C., where the real policy is made.
Trump lives for these fights. As long as the media continues to be a circus, he can still use his jesters for overwhelming power and control over this country.
Frankly, there is not a lot you can do as just citizens, but you can put pressure on your representatives. Call your congressperson and senator as much as you can and make sure they know you will not allow them to use their seat as a microphone, then beg to sit at Trump’s table.
You can’t even trust voting on party lines anymore. Do your research on the candidates and ensure they are going to be the best representation for you and your community.
