Kevin’s Journal: Why Stop Our Passion?

Published by Kevin Brassil on October 7, 2025

There are a lot of things going on in our world today and a lot of people have different emotions surrounding our current state of the world. When thinking about how different people process our world’s events it is important to realize that it is not always as easy as saying “don’t worry, the world will change once your generation is in charge.”

When older generations say this, it not only dismisses problems future generations will face, but also shows they are not interested and do not see us as important.

In a lot of aspects of public discourse, particularly Democratic leaders will say “when they go low, we go high” when referring to restrictive laws Republicans have put forth. While it is true this may look or feel morally superior, it also works to stifle the emotions of the most passionate, and in some cases can be seen as racist.

In some cases where African Americans put their passion into an issue, they are seen as angry or resistant to the status quo, while white Americans that are passionate are seen as defending their culture or trying to make their community safe.

We see those who are passionate as trying to stir trouble or disrupt the norms in our culture. Years after disrupters have died, there is a tendency to look back and realize they may have been in the right, and their passion was misrepresented.

I do not want this to happen with the leaders of today’s world, who worked so hard to ensure that their issues were pushed to the world stage.

In our world, we are losing a lot of this passion. It should be harnessed into the big issues of our generation. Our generation is becoming tired of politics and world events, because they seem like problems that are so out of reach to solve.

They really aren’t that difficult to solve if we come together with people who have differing beliefs, and find common ground to fight against the greatest issues in our nation, and our world.

Once people start to join together, it will become clear that it does not matter how the person says an idea or how passionate they are, as long as they have ideas to create a better society.

Moving forward in our nation, we must try and pay more attention to what ideas people bring to the table and how we can combine these with already created standards to create a society that works for all of us.
