If you didn’t vote, are you complacent or just lazy?

Published by Kevin Brassil on December 3, 2024

I know the headline is a little much, but I am genuinely confused. It seems like the people our age who had the most to say about divisive issues, such as trans rights, civil rights, and immigration did not vote, and it is very telling to me.

It shows me that you’re all talk, but when it takes time to make a decision, you don’t want to do your research and do what’s best for your community. People these days seem to only be voting for themselves and what is best for them. This makes me very frustrated.

When you look back in a few years, are you going to say that you did the most to help your community and the people around you? If you didn’t vote this time around, I would tell you that you did not serve your community to the best of your ability, and you should rethink your thought process.

Truly, if you didn’t vote during this election, please stop talking about issues that bother you. All you’re doing is demonstrating the stereotypes of our generation that older generations already believe, like the idea that we are lazy and uninformed.

I know a lot of you didn’t vote because there wasn’t a candidate that appealed to you, and I can understand that. But just like when you’re ordering food, sometimes the option you want isn’t on the menu, and it’s not like you can skip eating, so you may need to go with the next best option.

I guess what I am saying is a lot of people say they believe in one idea, but they won’t vote for that idea because they don’t like the person saying that idea. If you didn’t vote, it’s time to get off the video games and start researching better candidates, and when it comes time to vote, put yourself in a position to vote for that better candidate.

Even if you need to vote for a third-party candidate, please do your civic duty and vote for the best candidate.
