The Bears Fall to the Commanders in Walk Off Fashion: Was it Karma?
Sunday, Oct. 27 the Chicago Bears battled against the Washington Commanders and lost 18-15 in the last seconds of the game.
The Bears, the heart of the city, took on the Commanders out of Washington and the game did not disappoint. Both rookie QBs were taken back to back, Caleb Williams at #1 and Jayden Daniels at #2. This is a rivalry in the making.
Both team’s offenses were struggling the whole game.
The offensive line for the Bears did a horrible job blocking as he was pressured on 20 of his 36 dropbacks. While on the other side, Daniels was pressured a good amount as the Bears were able to keep them from scoring a touchdown for 99% of the game.
The Bears Offense struggled with the air game, as Williams only threw for 131 yards the whole game along with completing only 10/24 passing attempts. On the other hand, Daniels was held at bay until the last-second throw propelled him to 326 yards passing and a touchdown.
Although the air attack by the Bears didn’t amaze anyone, the rushing attack did. D’Andre Swift rushed for 129 yards on only 18 carries, along with his huge 56-yard rush to put the first Bears touchdown on the board.
At this point the Commanders had not yet stepped foot in the endzone, as the Bears were playing a bend-but-don’t-break defense, allowing only four field-goals totaling 12 points.
This is where the Bears’ coaching derailed. As the Bears were down 12-7 on the goalline, they handed it off to their backup center Doug Kramer Jr, who fumbled the ball, recovering the ball were the Commanders. When asked why in a press conference, head Coach Matt Eberflus responded, “We just got to do it better… It’s a one-yard play. We felt that a big guy like that taking a dive could do that.”
However, facing adversity, Williams showed why he was the first pick overall. As the Bear’s defense got the ball back for the offense, they took it down and scored a touchdown on a Roschon Johnson rush, with less than a minute to go.
The Bears lost due to the Hail Mary touchdown thrown by Daniels in the last two seconds of the game. The over 50-yard pass was tipped by Bears cornerback Tyrique Stevenson and then caught by Commander receiver Noah Brown, resulting in the loss for the Bears.
