Elmhurst University loses a student after pedestrian-train collision

Published by leaderadmin on October 26, 2022

On Oct. 25, an email sent out to the Elmhurst University campus community announced that an EU student died from a pedestrian-train collision on Oct. 24.

A vigil was held for the student the following evening at 10 p.m. in the Hammerschmidt Memorial Chapel.

An EU Alert was sent to students on Oct. 24, stating that there was a “pedestrian-involved train accident north of campus” and to “please avoid Park Ave.”

The student’s name has been kept private out of respect for the family.

President Troy VanAken sent an email out to Elmhurst University students and staff on Oct. 25.

“It’s been a very difficult day, as I am heartbroken at the loss of one of our students yesterday,” said VanAken in the email. “Our campus community has lost a student, a friend, a life full of promise.”

On Oct. 27, Counseling Services will hold a support session for students during protected hour, 11:45 a.m. – 12: 45 p.m in the President’s Dining Room, located in the Frick Center.
