Roll the dice and advance through the game of college with these activities
College can be stressful, but there are plenty of activities you can do to enjoy your free time.
If you are looking for the prime hangout spot on campus, look no further than the Mall. Located behind the Frick Center and in the heart of Elmhurst University’s campus, this big grassy area is perfect for spending time in the sun with friends.
On any nice day, it is guaranteed you’ll see groups of students playing spikeball, catch, and listening to music. It’s the perfect place to get your homework done or to enjoy a good book.
On colder days you could go down to The Roost, which is located in the basement of the Frick Center. Enjoy a game area with a couple pool tables, table tennis, and more. You could also get a burger, pizza, or wrap at the E.C. Grille.
Open late, The Roost is also a perfect spot to grab a bite to eat after watching or playing some Bluejay Athletics. There are many sports to choose from in just the fall season, including Football, Women’s Volleyball, Women’s Tennis, Women’s and Men’s Soccer, Women’s and Men’s Cross Country, and Women’s Golf.
There is also plenty of exercise equipment for all your lifting or cardio needs at the Tyrrell Fitness Center in Faganel Hall.
If sports are not your cup of tea, there are many clubs and organizations to join. The best way to find the perfect organization for you is to check out the Student Involvement Fair. It features all the best clubs, including The Leader.
If you are looking for what to do off campus, you could go to downtown Elmhurst. Filled with stores and restaurants, it is a fun place to wander around. Plus, many of the stores give discounts to EU students as long as you show your Jaypass.
If you’re looking to satisfy your cravings off campus, some of the best eateries in town are Guac N Tacos, Armand’s Pizzeria, 151 Kitchen and Bar, and Nu Crepes. Gia Mia also offers half off pizzas on Monday’s. However, if you’re looking for fast food, Panera Bread holds a special place in the hearts of The Leader staff.
The York Theater is a great place to relax after class, and some days are discounted for students, so be on the lookout. If you are into live theater, Drury Lane Theater is located in Oak Brook and has quality productions that are ongoing.
If you’re looking to venture further off campus, the Oakbrook Mall is close by for all the retail therapy you could need. The outdoor mall is a great place to walk around with friends and treat yourself to something new.
