How To Make Sure Your New Property Stays Clean
Moving into your first college dorm can be a scary and overwhelming experience; there are so many items to bring, and it can sometimes be a hassle to keep your room clean and organized.
If you are nervous about having your own space and aren’t sure how to maintain it, here are a few tips that I use to clean my dorm that are easy and effective.
The first tip is to bring a Swiffer or broom with you. My dorm had a tile floor, so I found it best to use a Swiffer. I use the wet and dry Swiffer, so I can use both the dry and wet cloths without buying two separate dust mops.
Swiffers are really easy to use and cleaning my floor took less than five minutes. The Swiffer was very inexpensive, it can be found at Target or Walmart.
To clean my desk and other work spaces, I recommend using Clorox wipes to disinfect. I found that Clorox wipes did the best job at removing germs on surfaces that are constantly used.
However, if you don’t like the smell of chemicals, I also enjoyed using Mrs. Meyer’s Multi-Surface Everyday Cleaner. They smell really good and clean well without the harsh chemicals.
When it comes time to do your laundry, I recommend using laundry pods instead of liquid detergent. Liquid detergent can get messy and spill, whereas with the pods it’s easy to just throw them into your laundry without the hassle.
Make sure to keep an eye on your laundry because you do not want to forget about it in the machine, as doing that is rude to everyone who lives on your floor. Set a timer and be readily available to change it over when it is ready.
Personally, I use unscented pods because I find the scented ones to be a bit overwhelming, but go with what feels best for you.
Another tip I find helpful is to make your bed everyday. I found that when I make my bed, I’m a little bit more productive, and it helps make your room look a lot neater.
I also recommend bringing multiple pairs of sheets with you, so you are not using the same pair over and over again. Rotate your sheets about once per week, and always make sure that the cleanest thing in your dorm is your bedsheets.
Lastly, I recommend talking to your roommate ahead of time about what supplies you are going to bring. This is a good idea because it avoids one person spending a lot of money. Luckily there are a lot of affordable products available, and it helps to have a plan to equate the cost.
If you think you may not need something, do not go and buy it right away. Make sure you start with the essentials, and as you get settled in more, you can then go ahead and buy more specialty products to make your dorm room shine.
With these tips in mind, it will be easy to keep your room clean without spending hours doing so. Find what works best for you in keeping your new investment sparkling.
