Lady Gaga and Taylor Swift POP back into the music scene

Published by Jenna Pederson on March 3, 2020

The music industry, specifically pop, gave us two new music videos on Feb. 27. Lady Gaga released her single “Stupid Love” while Taylor Swift released her music video for her song “The Man”.

Lady Gaga’s new single was applauded by fans, many saying that they’re happy to see she’s weird again.   In the comment section, many also talked about how the song and video have an ‘80s pop vibe. According to The Atlantic, “‘Stupid Love’ will be called a return form for Gaga.”

Fans talked about the Area 51-desert vibes they got from the music video, some even making jokes that this was how the aliens celebrated when the Area 51 raid didn’t take place last September. Gaga contrasted the desert background by wearing a hot pink bralette with matching high waisted shorts and—of course—a pink wig.

Most fans loved the video, exclaiming that the old Lady Gaga was back.

On Feb. 27, Tyler Swift (no that’s not a typo) released a new music video. In Taylor’s music video, makeup artists transformed her into “The Man.” By making herself look like a man for this video, fans stated that the meaning of the song could be truly captured as she sings about sexism.

In the video, Swift is a wealthy businessman who all the women fawn over. Swift was manspreading on a train ride and smoking a cigar before being surrounded by young models in bikinis all sunbathing on a yacht.

At the end of the video, Taylor is shown to be directing and tells Tyler to be “sexier, more likable”, he agrees (fun fact- voiced by The Rock), before she sends him off.  Taylor ends her music video by complementing one of the women in the video.

After both women released their singles and music videos, some fans tweeted about how much they loved this, saying “find a woman who can do both” before showing a side by side image of Lady Gaga as Jo Calderone and Taylor Swift as Tyler Swift.

Give it up for Jo Calderone and Tyler Swift— oops, slip of the tongue, Lady Gaga, and Taylor Swift.
