This week in pop culture: Shane Dawson makeup & Grandpa Kitchen passes away
Shane Dawson Reveals Makeup
It’s official, Shane Dawson’s jaw-dropping makeup pallet has finally been released to the public after his year-long collaboration with Jeffree Star. While the pallet was officially revealed on October 30, sales started at 10 a.m. (PST) on November 1. Kudos to anyone who beat the crowds, online and in stores, and actually purchased some of his makeup. Websites selling the makeup crashed several times, kicking some of us (*cough cough*) out of line and wrecking our chances at getting a pallet. Releasing a makeup line is revolutionary for Shane who’s gone through many changes and controversies over the years. After all these years, he’s again involved in a sketch, though this time Shane will be starring in it alongside his fabulous business partner Jeffree to announce the release of their makeup. For those that have watched him since the mid-2000s, his progress is remarkable and is a bit inspirational, not to get all mushy on everyone. His perseverance despite his battle with anxiety, depression, and body dysmorphia is as beautiful as the makeup pallet he’s released. Through his documentary of making the product (“The Beautiful World of Jeffree Star” available on Youtube), Shane gradually became more and more confident in his product. He’s practiced the art of makeup on his wonderful fiancé Ryland, showing off his progress on Instagram. This allowed Shane the chance to play with color, and, with the help from Jeffree, the comedic duo created “Conspiracy”, “Little Controversy” and a lip gloss set. From the looks of it, this makeup is absolutely gorgeous on all skin tones. Here’s to hoping everyone who didn’t get the chance to order Shane’s makeup during its release gets some as soon as it stocks up.
Blake Roasts Ryan
Blake Lively and Ryan Reynolds are totally one of the coolest couples in Hollywood, constantly joking with one another on social media for all of their fans to enjoy. Ryan has known to joke about Blake just as much as she does about him. The couple just love trolling one another online. The Eve of Halloween was no different when Lively took to Instagram to roast Reynolds after he bragged about his Aviation Gin’s achievement. In response, Lively poked fun, posting to her Instagram story and saying “My husband has no chill…” and called him out again for his next post and the next, repeatedly teasing for bragging about his achievement. The more Ryan posted about his Aviation Gin (which was rated number one in the top ten Best Celebrity Spirits) the more Blake poked fun at her husband. Glad no feelings were hurt since roasting one another is a regular occurrence for this adorable couple.
Scorpio Season
Hello, Scorpios and happy birthday to you! While the universe may feel a little off-balance thanks to Mercury’s retrograde affecting our communication skills, let’s hope Scorpio season is in our favor. Let’s kick things off with getting to know our Scorpio friends a little, starting with their birthdays (October 23-November 21). While Scorpios tend to be stubborn, they’re also fiercely loyal and always follow through on their plans. This sign tends to be passionate, holds a love for travel, and does not partake in drama. These lovely people-pleasers get along best with Cancers, Capricorns, Pisces, and Virgos. During this time of year, all signs may feel a bit overwhelmed, but it’s important to communicate and talk it out. The most important thing is to be true to yourself and embrace the fearless energy of the Scorpio.
One Home’s Costume
Halloween may be over, but I thought this house was totally worth sharing. The owner of a home in York, Pennsylvania decided to decorate the entryway of her home to look like Cookie Monster. Talk about going all out for Halloween. While she said she did it for kids, I can’t be the only adult who’d totally trick or treat at that house specifically, right? Every year, the owner decorates the front of her house differently thanks to the two trees perfectly placed by the entryway of her home. Talk about creativity.
Loving, Caring, Sharing: Grandpa Kitchen passes away
Narayana Reddy, who was known as Grandpa Kitchen on Youtube, passed away on October 27 at 73 years old in India. Youtube’s Grandpa had a large following on the platform with 6.3 million subscribers who would tune in to watch him cook large meals for the orphans and underprivileged populations in Hyderabad, a southern Telangana state in India. His family announced his passing through a Youtube video posted on October 30 sharing highlights of Reddy cooking as well as video clips from his funeral ceremony where he was draped in flowers. Viewers of Grandpa are saddened with his passing, with one viewer commenting, "He dedicated his whole life for the orphans. Salute, you were a true hero."
