Students to pay extra for air conditioned dorms
The Office of Housing and Residence Life will be upcharging students $250 each semester for air conditioning in Stanger Hall, Cureton Hall, and West Hall in the 2020-2021 school year.
The Elmhurst College Board of Trustees voted for this new charge in October after a proposal was put forth by Phil Riordan, vice president of Student Affairs.
The Office of Housing and Residence Life expects some change in the preference of dorm halls.
“There may be a shift in demand for some buildings, but we don’t expect a decrease in demand for AC,” says Sarah Meaney, director of Housing and Residence Life.
The cost of providing air conditioning on campus is more expensive than the cost imposed on students.
“This charge doesn’t cover full cost [of AC in the dorms],” added Desiree Chen, senior director of Communications and External Relations.
