Taylor the singing witch
Taylor is back in the news after her banners were banned at the STAPLES Center by the Kings hockey team after she allegedly cursed the team with bad luck back in 2015. Who would’ve guessed Taylor’s an actual witch; this is just in time for Halloween. All jokes aside, her banner was not taken down, but the Kings have covered it up during their home games. Now to deep dive into this apparent curse. Back in 2015, the team kicked off the season with a losing steak and blamed Swift for this, as her banner was the only new addition to the stadium. Maybe it’s her banner, maybe it’s just bad luck, not enough practice, who knows. As of 2019, other sports teams that use the STAPLES Center have covered Swift’s banner as well, claiming it’s the cause of their losses (as posters will do), but the STAPLES Center has refused to take the poster down. Looks like teams will have to keep covering the banner or let their superstitions go. It’s not like Taylor actually has magic powers, right?
Miley claps back
As many of us may have heard, Miley Cyrus and Liam Hemsworth have separated and are seeing other people. While tabloids haven’t thrown much shade or attention to Liam, Cyrus has been faulted for finding new love with Cody Simpson. Miley’s been criticized for daring to use the same filter she used in photos with Liam, wearing a crop top similar to that in her “Wrecking Ball” music video and really just moving on, but Cyrus has clapped back. On Twitter, Miley shared her annoyance, telling the public they have no business in her relationship and calling people out for slut-shaming her (and other women) while men doing similar actions are often brushed under the rug by tabloids. Both Cyrus and Simpson have been scrutinized since the start of their relationship and all parties (Cyrus, Simpson, and Hemsworth) seem done with the public attention; can we really blame them?
The candy hero
One man, a true hero, by the name Kevin Flanagan has taken to Facebook to call out parents in Elmhurst for giving out cheap candy. In his post, Flanagan explains that while fun sized bars, Jolly Ranchers, Smarties, and Dum Dums are acceptable in the neighboring suburbs, they’re not good enough for Elmhurst where most people are loaded. Parents can, and should, give out more than one fun sized bar; Flanagan even argues they should hand out full sized bars. By doing this, Flanagan argues that less homes will be skipped, and of course more kids will be happy. While many may agree Flanagan truly is a hero, everyone in Elmhurst doesn’t, sending him hate-mail and reporting him to authorities. Flanagan has taken all of it in stride. In the words of Flanagan “step up your game” Elmhurst, give the kids full sized candy bars.
Thanks, universe
Just as Libra season comes to an end, the universe decides to throw us another curveball. On Halloween night (of course it had to be Halloween of all nights), Mercury will begin moving in retrograde motion. This will hinder our communication skills and can lead to an unsteady foundation we may not realize until Mercury has resumed a normal orbit. Because the universe just adores those of us obsessed with astrology, there’s also going to be a new moon on October 27, which heightens our emotions (your moon sign mainly reflects your emotions and fears). With Mercury in retrograde, you may also want to clarify plans and steer clear of misunderstandings, as they become more probable during this time. And in case that wasn’t enough, technology glitches are also common, so make sure to save your work multiple times, wouldn’t want to lose that paper or project because the universe was feeling temperamental. Of course, a wrench had to be thrown into things as soon as Libra left everything balanced; let’s hope for a good Scorpio season this November.
