Happy birthday Scooby-Doo!
Scooby-Doo, Happy Birthday to you! Lame rhyme, yes, but on Friday the 13th, under the full moon, “Scooby-Doo” turned 50. Never before have I felt so old and yet so young at the same time. Regardless, the mystery show has a pretty interesting history. According to USA Today, writers originally planned for it to be a spin-off of a sci-fi adventure series but got canceled after its first season. Had “Scooby-Doo” gone this route, it would have had more guns and been way more hardcore. That kind of sounds like “Scooby-Doo” meets “Supernatural”, wait, that happened, and it was amazing! Regardless, the creators were told to tone things down, for the sake of the children, and began further developing Scooby and Shaggy. Not entirely sure a pot-head who constantly has the munchies is the greatest role model for kids, but hey, maybe, who knows. As the cast was found, the show began to evolve into the “Scooby-Doo” we’ve all come to love; it can’t just be me. Taking a leap down the timeline, USA Today says that in 2010, Cartoon Network attempted reviving the series but fans (smartly) shot it down. Leave one aspect of my childhood alone; networks have killed enough classics with poor revivals. Time to celebrate Scooby’s birthday by watching all my old VHS tapes and Scooby meets Supernatural (got to celebrate these birthday twins). I can’t be the only one who held onto VHS tapes, right?
Ari not liking 21
Isn’t the old saying, imitation is the best form of flattery? “Thank U Next” singer Ariana Grande, is suing Forever 21 because they dared dress some of their models like her. Images of models wearing pom-pom headbands similar to Grande’s have surfaced on the retailer's Instagram page. The color scheme is similar, and ripping off her lyrics in the description is totally crossing the line, but seriously that headband could be bought at Claire's. Fashion is fashion; we wear what’s in and forget what’s out. According to CBS News, Grande has claimed that Forever 21 is attempting to make money off of her after a filed brand deal. Forever 21 probably couldn’t afford the world-known popstar because they’re declaring bankruptcy. With Ari filing to sue for $10 million in damages (yikes), this may be the final nail in the coffin for Forever 21. Where am I supposed to find shirts that describe my various moods of pizza now? Kidding, but seriously, if Forever 21 closes it will be yet another department store to add to the list of dead shops. Forever 21 crossed the line in ripping her lyrics off and posing the model similar to Grande, but can we blame them for trying to stay trendy?
Suicide Squad returns
James Gunn has made the decision to redo “Suicide Squad” the right way. No offense to anyone who likes the 2016 version, it was pretty good despite its flaws. Gunn, the director of “Guardians of the Galaxy”, took to Twitter to reveal potential cast members including John Cena, Pete Davidson, Viola Davis, Sean Gunn, and more. No Jared Leto this time around, which honestly is fine; the guy’s a great singer, but Joker didn’t really seem to fit in with the plot. A reboot sounds like a good idea, especially with John Ostrander from the comics working on it, but hopefully they don’t remake it three times in the span of ten years like Hollywood did with Spiderman. IMDB shows that the reboot is set to release June 6, 2021. Movie date anyone?
Virgo out this season
As someone who checks her horoscope daily and has her Sun, Moon, and rising sign memorized (Virgo, Sagittarius, and Scorpio), I’m here to give you some of the details about Virgos as our season comes to a close on September 22. Virgo’s are known to be As Earth signs; we remain grounded and are all about perfection. They tend to be shy, deeply analytical, and, despite all our complaining, are loyal friends at heart. Many are more detail-oriented and have a stronger desire to be organized. Total bonus having this trait during the first month of school if you ask me, especially for anyone who had a party-centered Leo season. Hopefully, all my fellow signs, even you Gemini (no shade here), had a great Virgo season and hit your goals! Well Virgos, it looks like Libra season will have its ups and downs as the scale works to balance our self-esteem. Try not to bottle your emotions up (the struggle is real). Try not to fuss and instead remember what your real talents are. Happy belated birthday to all my fellow Virgos, and happy early birthday Libras; here’s to hoping Libra season is a great one!
