On Feb. 2, it was announced that pop star Kelly Clarkson’s talk show will be ending. The show will conclude after the current fall season. An official date has not yet been announced. The reason for this ending is so that Clarkson can prioritize family.
This is essential because six months ago, Clarkson’s ex-husband, Brandon Blackstock, died from cancer. As a result, her kids, River (age 11) and Remy (age 9), only have one parent. Due to this, the show is stopping so Clarkson can be there for her kids.
Her career will change, but she will still be in the spotlight. In a post on Instagram Kelly Clarkson said, “This isn’t goodbye. I’ll still be making music, playing shows here and there, and you might catch me on The Voice from time to time…you never know where I might show up next”
As evidence for this, she was just added as a coach on the upcoming season of “The Voice.” It’s awesome that her career is still going.
However, this cancellation indicates something bigger. The larger issue is that talk show culture is flaming out. Recently, other popular talk shows have ended.
These include “The Late Late Show with James Corden,” “The Late Show with Stephen Colbert,” and “Sherri.” There are many indications of this trend.
First, when these shows end, they make headlines. Second, it happens out of nowhere. Lastly, it may seem like these shows last for a while, but looking closer, it’s not that long.
This can be seen by looking at the seasons of the shows. “James Corden” had eight seasons, “Stephen Colbert” had 11 seasons, and “Sherri” had four seasons. With “The Kelly Clarkson Show,” all of these things apply. The show has only been on for seven seasons, and it is popular.
This popularity brought headlines. Before it was announced, headlines speculated about the announcement. The headlines increased after the official announcement. Fans have responded to these headlines and don’t want to see the show go.
It’s sad to see Kelly Clarkson’s show go, but the most important thing is that she is taking care of her kids. We will have to wait and see what new content she comes out with in the future.
