Bluejay Sports Corner – 3/18

Men’s Lacrosse
Men’s Lacrosse has been on fire since the beginning of the season; however, that is not a surprise as they had an impressive 13-4 overall record in 2024 and were runners-up in the CCIW tournament that year as well.
The team has a great defense and a stellar offense, resulting in 7-0 so far this season.
Being led defensively by Noah Mickelson, the goalie who has started his 2025 campaign strong, making 79 saves on 235 shots faced. Allowing 56 goals for a .585 save percentage and a .81 goal against average. He racked up CCIW Defensive Student-Athlete of the Week.
Phenom Eli Spence is leading the offense through the first couple of weeks, tallying up 36 goals and 53 total points. Spence tallied five goals and two assists in the win against Hope. Leading to his second CCIW Offensive Student-Athlete of the Week.
The Jays look to face Albion College in Michigan next!
Women’s Lacrosse:
To start the season, the Jays took their first win against Hanover College 11-3, then put up a fight against Marian University but could not hold on for the win.
The Jays then took a commanding win over Illinois Institute of Technology, 15-8, and then fell to Cornell College. The Jays are starting off at a respectable 2-2 in the season.
Their offense is being led by Gracie Eastmen, who leads the team with 20 goals, along with nine assists for the Jays. While being led defensively by their goalkeeper Jacq Vanoni, who has a .523 save percentage.
The Jays look to play Lewis University next!
Softball:
The Jays softball team started the season opener 0-4, losing to the University of Wisconsin Stevens Point, University of Wisconsin Platteville, Adrian College and Transylvania University. This past weekend, they played Wilmington College and Anderson University, though at the time of printing, scores had not been officially released.
Baseball:
The Bluejays baseball team started off its first group of games at 3-6 and they split a pair in their first two weekends.
They faced the Illinois Institute of Technology and Kalamazoo College, lost to Kalamazoo College twice, and swept the Illinois Institute of Technology.
The Jays took a close loss to the University of Wisconsin Platteville before a decisive win against Wabash College of 11-3.
This past weekend the Bluejays lost twice to Rose-Hulman before their third game was postponed.
The Jays are being led offensively by Rock Smith, who has two home runs on the year and is batting a whopping .500 on the year.
Elmhurst University, despite a rocky start, is looking good on pitching led by freshman Jack Kreuger and senior Charlie Smith.
Men’s Wrestling:
Men’s finished out its regular season as a team at 5-4.
While placing seventh out 10 in the CCIW Championship and 13th out of 17 in the NCAA Region V Championship, the Jays had their very own Rhenzo Augusto qualify for the NCAA tournament. Augusto fell in the first round but managed to battle back. He lost his last round in a 12-4 major decision. Augusto was one victory away from All-American honors.
