VanAken cancels class after threatening message
UPDATE: In a campus wide email sent at 12:51 a.m., President Troy VanAken said Elmhurst Police do not believe the threatening message found in the library bathroom “constitutes a credible threat.” VanAken also added the campus will remain closed Monday, October 28 as a precaution and so police can continue their investigation. Administration are expected to meet later today to determine if campus is closed Tuesday as well.
President Troy VanAken cancelled class on October 28 after a threatening message was uncovered at the Elmhurst College A.C. Buehler Library late Sunday night, October 27.
“Based on the nature of the graffiti, we are sending out an EC Alert and campus will be closed tomorrow,” said VanAken in a campus wide email sent out at 11:05 p.m.
The handwritten threat was found in a stall in the women’s bathroom located on the 3rd floor of the campus library.
Elmhurst Police arrived on the scene after a student reported the message to library staff who called the police, who arrived on the scene at around 10:00 p.m.
This threatening message comes after the campus faced this past week two back-to-back hate incidents and a shooting threat in a dorm bathroom.
More updates will be posted as the story develops.
