Online Exclusive: Water leak discovered on EU campus resolved

Elmhurst University facilities and management fixed a water leak around 2 p.m. on Thur. Feb. 24, after the water leak was discovered near the Frick Center and Memorial Hall late evening on Wed. Feb. 23, according to an alert sent out to the Elmhurst University community.

The leak shut down the restrooms in Old Main and Memorial Hall for the duration of the problem.

The source of the issue was a broken mainline which leads to campus.

“We called our plumbing company, and they’re digging it up,” said EU Maintenance Supervisor Wade Golz. “Luckily it was just a sleeve they needed to put on it.”

The plumbing company began working at roughly 8 a.m. on Feb. 24, according to Golz.

The issue prevented restroom usage in Old Main and Memorial Hall, and made the buildings a bit cooler than normal, according to an email sent out to the EU community.

“Until those repairs are completed,” said the email, “restrooms in both buildings [Old Main and Memorial Hall] will be unavailable with the Frick Center being the closest location for these services.”

“I was frustrated that my class in Old Main was in person,” said EU junior Stefanie Socco in a text message to The Leader. “Because I like to step out and use the bathroom every time I’m in class, it gives me an excuse to give myself a break mentally from sitting for an hour straight, so without having that opportunity to get some air and refresh it was just irritating.”
