Adele eases us into a new era with ‘Easy on Me’ single

After saying “Hello” back in 2015, Adele finally is back with new music.  On Oct. 14, Adele released her lead single for her upcoming album “30,” titled “Easy On Me.”

It seems that the theme of this fall is divorce, with Kacey Musgraves releasing her divorce album “star-crossed” earlier this season, and Adele following up with her new album. Being able to write such personal music is a gift, and Adele is no stranger to beautiful, emotional music. 

This single is a classic Adele song, and after not hearing anything new from her in a while, this balad fills the Adele-shaped void that’s been empty all these years. Adele does piano ballads so well and her voice truly is like butter. 

The lyrics of this song hurt to listen to. Adele packed so much emotion into this ballad that pulls at your heart strings and lets go when you least expect it, snapping back onto your skin where you let out a yelp a little too loud to be deemed socially acceptable. “You can’t deny how hard I have tried, I changed who I was to put you both first, but now I give up.” Ouch, Adele. 

It may be weird to be obsessed with the length of the song, but having a three-minute and forty-four-second song was a perfect move. It seems like Adele does everything right with her music. 

The music video for the song was simple, yet stunning. The symbolism of her leaving the house that she has been building since the start of her career in her “Rolling in the Deep” music video, really shows that Adele is moving forward and not looking back.

Her newest album “30” will be released on Nov. 19, and the release is highly anticipated by listeners everywhere. In fact, Taylor Swift moved the release of Red (Taylor’s Version) to Nov. 13, because of Adele’s comeback.
